ERM can undertake feasibility studies, conduct design and design modifications. Generally, the final design can then be manufactured and tested and commissioned in-house in conjunction in our West Australian Facilities.

ERM has undertaken many feasibility studies, complete with cost estimates to assist the clients in their decision making process and project viability assessments. The feasibility studies generally explore multiple solutions along with associated advantages and disadvantages (SWOT Analysis). Our team can then complete detailed design based on the selected option – including drafting and design drawings.

ERM understand the need for modification of existing plant, systems and equipment to optimise and or customise plant performance and throughput. Brownfield plant, equipment and system modifications if analysed and conducted effectively will add millions of dollars in value (through better plant performance and or eliminating unplanned breakdowns).

High Voltage Systems and Equipment

ERM specialise in High Voltage systems and equipment. This includes system audits, design / design modifications and condition monitoring. High Voltage systems must be audited from time to time due to the continuous evolution of networks and activity overtime. The regulatory environment around all High Voltage network modifications and new installations sets strict design and reporting requirements. This is managed through a HV Submission Process with the relevant regulatory body. ERM manages all aspects of a High Voltage network including assisting clients in meeting best industry practice and regulatory requirements. In addition, we assist our clients in identifying and controlling existing and emerging risks using our state of the art equipment to better understand the current state of the equipment. We then derive maintenance strategies to ensure personnel safety and plat production is not compromised.

Although High Voltage Systems are specialised and present challenges, the Low Voltage systems and equipment often present challenges too. This involves safety risks as well as single point failures in processing plants. The energy levels of an arc flash event for instance can present catastrophic personnel safety risks. ERM has assisted many clients in identifying and controlling such hazards.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the use of non-linear loads, such as variable speed drives (VSD’s) in mining and manufacturing plants. The result is often harmonic pollution and a substantial deterioration of power quality, leading to sub-optimal performance and premature failures of critical equipment. Examples of this include:
  • Generator/transformer overheating, reduced ratings and performance
  • High Voltage capacitor bank and cable failures
  • Disturbance to sensitive control system/instruments
  • Premature failure of pumps and motors
  • Suboptimal performance of VSDs and premature failure of drive circuit cards
