On-Line PD Measurements of 33kV assets

ERM Consulting were engaged to conduct On-Line PD Measurements on various 33kV cables and HV Assets. This was part of ongoing cable inspection and testing Planned Maintenance Activities on site.

Methodology

ERM Consulting utilize state of the art electrical test instruments and more importantly, our Electrical Engineering team have a full understanding of the test specimen as well as how to test and analyze the results. In this scenario, the On-line Spot PD tests were carried out using the UHF/ TEV and acoustic techniques. Analysis revealed severe PD activity and degradation of the XLPE requiring urgent rectification works. This avoided unplanned and catastrophic 33kV cable failure.

Application of the solution

ERM Consulting delivered this project at no delay to our client resulting in early detection of a potential catastrophic cable failure and associated extensive downtime. A great result for the entire team.
