ERM was engaged by one of the large Iron Ore Companies in Western Australia to investigate slip ring and brush wear issues on their critical HV motors. ERM conducted multiple site visits to discuss the issues with the site maintenance personnel, Engineers and Condition Monitoring teams. Various trends were also set in the site’s PCS system in order to gather additional data.
ERM also gathered information on the operational environment of the motors as well as the existing site maintenance plans. With all the information at hand, ERM derived a list of actions that were implemented progressively in order to:
- Reduce downtime via reducing the number frequency of inspections
- Reduce downtime via eliminating catastrophic failures within the slip ring chamber
- Improved motor availability and reliability
